Say Hello to the New Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S 4MATIC+ Compact SUV

Giancarlo Perlas July 20, 2020

While most parts of the world stood still due to the pandemic, Mercedes-AMG has been very busy. After the unveiling of the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, the performance division of Daimler just released the new Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC, Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4MATIC+ and Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S 4MATIC+.

The Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S 4MATIC seats on top of the GLA compact sport utility vehicle hierarchy. Compared to its standard Mercedes-Benz GLA and intermediary AMG GLA 35 models, the AMG GLA 45 S is a big leap in terms of performance.

Engine and Performance

The AMG GLA 45 S is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine. It’s the same power unit found in the top trims of the A-Class and CLA.

The engine has a peak output of 421 hp and 500 Nm of torque. All that power goes to an all-wheel-drive system and distributed via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The compact SUV has an electronically-limited maximum speed of 270 km/h and an acceleration time of 4.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.

Design

The AMG GLA 45 S is not much different than the AMG A35 in its exterior and interior styling elements. It features the usual Panamerican radiator grille with vertical slats, which is a standard in AMG vehicles. Then, it adopts a subtle modification in its front lip and air inlets. It does, however, get a reinforced shell, quadruple exhaust tips, extended spoiler on the rear part of the roof, and 20-inch wheels wrapped in 255/40 ZR 20 tires.

Meanwhile, the interior benefits from the standard MBUX infotainments system with an AMG-specific theme. It also has new a sporty steering wheel as well as upholstery in Artico man-made leather/Dinamica microfiber in black and contrasting red stitching. These can be further customized using the optional package of AMG.
