Top 4 Things You Need To Know About The Denza X
Giancarlo Perlas November 16, 2019Mercedes-Benz is scheduled to launch six vehicles at the 2019 Auto Guangzhou in China. While we have already seen the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Mercedes-Benz GLB, and Mercedes-Benz EQS when they debuted elsewhere, coming for the first time are the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, the China-exclusive Mercedes-AMG A35 L, and the Denza X.
Earlier, we discussed our expectations about the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS, and all we can say about the Mercedes-AMG A35 L is that it is just an A35 with a longer wheelbase to please Chinese customers who prefer to be chauffeured to their destinations most of the time. Aside from the much-hyped Maybach badged SUV, what got our interest though is the Denza X.
1. What is the Denza X?
The Denza X is an electric vehicle, which is from the partnership forged by Daimler and BYD. According to the Global Media Site of Daimler, the EV was designed by the China Advance Design Center. The auto will be available in a plug-in hybrid version and an all-electric-powered variant.
Denza was funded by both Daimler and BYD. The only product that the marque produced so far was the Denza 500, which only sold 1,974 units. The Denza X is now their hope of ramping up their game in 2020.
2. Exterior
The Denza X adopts some of the styling elements present in the 2018 BYD Tang that Daimler helped design. That’s the very reason why the auto is wearing “Styled by Mercedes” badges. The EV is 4,890 mm long, 1,950 mm wide, 1,725 mm high and has a wheelbase measuring 2,820 mm.
3. Interior
Going inside reveals a high-quality interior with leather covers, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, 15.6 inches multimedia screen, turbine-inspired air vents, and a 12.3-inch digital dashboard. The seats and the circular air conditioning shaft all scream of Mercedes-Benz styling.
4. Power Unit
Within the Denza X sits a turbocharged V4 with 192 hp matched with an electric motor for an extra 150 hp oomph. It uses a six-speed DSG transmission in distributing all its power to the front and rear wheels. The setup allows the EV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in not more than five seconds.
The full-electric version of the Denza X is getting a 245 hp electric motor. The electric range of the unit at full charge is estimated to reach up to 500 km.
