Next-Generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class Sedan Spied Again
Giancarlo Perlas July 10, 2019We have been seeing the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan on the road since last year. Up to now, the new prototype of Mercedes’ flagship car keeps on making its appearance to tease us. Recently, the vehicle was spied again while it was undergoing testing.
Mercedes is certainly taking its sweet time in developing the next-gen S-Class. So, we look forward to more neat features and new tech from the luxury car when it comes out in 2020.
The upcoming S-Class continues to intrigue us with its heavily camouflaged prototype. The completely wrapped body of the car does not reveal much but what stands out in the spy shots are the large consoles that seem to have replaced the door handles of the auto.
It is speculated that the blacked out consoles in the car doors are retractable handles. It is also possible that they are sensors rigged with security features such as biometric or mobile scanners that prevent unauthorized access to the car but provide easier entry for its driver and intended passengers.
In addition, the S-Class in the video shows trapezoidal exhaust tips. Therefore, we might be looking at the S560 model of the range. The unit is expected to carry a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine. On the other hand, it is speculated that it might come with a hybrid powertrain too with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine.
Another much-anticipated element in the next-gen S-Class is its integration of Mercedes’ Digital Light system. The tech features high-definition headlamps that project images or words on the ground to communicate with pedestrians and other drivers.
The spied S-Class will likely debut in 2020 with a 2021 model year. Information about the car is still scarce, so we will surely update this story once more details surface.
