2019 Mercedes-Benz C300 Has Improved Performance
Giancarlo Perlas July 24, 2019German carmaker Mercedes-Benz moved to improve the performance of its new C300 with an increase in output for the 2019 model year. While most players in this segment offers cars with a powerful six-cylinder option, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes all went ahead with the standard turbocharged inline-four.
These entry-level luxury cars all deliver equally good performance on the road, except perhaps for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This upgrade will change that as the German company fitted the entry-level C300 sedan, convertible, and coupe with a brand-new 2.0-liter turbo-four that can now make 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
The torque might remain the same but Mercedes, since 2018, has swapped its seven-speed automatic transmission to the brand’s latest nine-speed unit. Along with the new engine, these are the reasons why the 2019 C300 has improved efficiency and performance.
It is important for Mercedes to maintain the fuel efficiency of the C300 as this is a critical selling point for this class. It allows buyers and regulators to opt for a more fuel-efficient luxury sedan. The 2019 C300 is upping that game further with a rating of 37 mpg in a 75-mph highway fuel-economy test. That is 6 mpg better than the EPA’s highway estimate.
If you want maximum fuel efficiency, skip the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, which is an option, as it only makes 29 mpg. The rear-drive 2017 C300 convertible gets 32 mpg while the all-wheel-drive 2019 C300 sedan comes with 33 mpg.
The new C300 can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds. That’s 0.6 second better than the previous model, but still, fall short of the Audi A5 2.0T and the BMW 430i.
