Lewis Hamilton Victorious at the F1 French Grand Prix
Giancarlo Perlas June 24, 2018The dry spell that plagued Lewis Hamilton in the past two races has been broken. The Mercedes AMG Petronas driver got back to his winning form at the 2018 Formula One French Grand Prix held at the Circuit Paul Ricard.
The victory of Hamilton propels him back to the number one position in the 2018 F1 Driver Standings. He now has a total of 145 points this season.
Hamilton was followed by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in the second place, and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen in the third position. Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel got the fifth rank.
Vettel’s recent finish drives him back to the second place in the Driver Standings where he presently holds 131 points. It is interesting to note that both Hamilton and Vettel are now tied with three wins each after the race in France. However, the gap between them has widened to 14 points.
Let’s hope that Hamilton maintains his lead this time and that his Silver Arrows’ performance will keep up in the future races. The Briton was definitely impressive from the qualifying races where he nabbed the pole position going to this Sunday’s event.
Vettel remains a threat to the Briton’s supremacy, so one wrong move could compromise Hamilton’s place in the rankings again. Regardless of what happens, the see-sawing status of both Hamilton and Vettel in the standings makes the races very exciting this season.
Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas ended the race in the seventh position despite locking the starting grid with Hamilton in the qualifying. Problems in his car occurred after contact with Vettel’s vehicle early on. The Finn is currently in the fourth place of the Driver Standings with a score of 92 points.
