Mercedes-AMG Project One is Heading to IAA in Frankfurt
Giancarlo Perlas September 3, 2017We are only 11 days away from the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. The performance division of the three-pointed star brand will be making an impact at the start of the event with the unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG Project One.
According to the press release of Daimler in its Global Media Site, the Project One supersports car will feature a hybrid powertrain derived from Formula One technology. The combination of its petrol engine and electric motor will produce an output of more than 1,000 hp. Then the top speed of the vehicle is expected to surpass the 350 km/h mark. The source also claimed that the auto will be fuel and energy efficient.
So far, information about Project One is scarce. However, based on hints from AMG and insiders, the hypercar will get a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine. The unit will be paired with electric motors mounted on the front wheels, crankshaft and turbochargers.
The electric motors of Project One will have four times the storage capacity of the Mercedes F1 race cars. The projected key drawback in the auto though will be in its electric-only range. The high-performance vehicle was reported to only get a 25 km range from full-charge because the electric motors will be focused on boosting its power. Furthermore, the upcoming AMG car will require a regular maintenance for every 50,000 km.
The Project One will only be limited to 300 units. Delivery of the hypercar to customers will start in 2019.
The 67th IAA will start its trade days on September 14, 2017. The public days of the event will commence on September 16.
