First Look at the Mercedes-AMG Project One

Giancarlo Perlas September 11, 2017

After so much hype, the Mercedes-AMG Project One concept has finally been revealed in Frankfurt. The hypercar brings Formula 1 technology to the road and is made for day-to-day drive.

Design

The Project One follows the design elements of the other hypercars today. The new mid-engined AMG car bears a striking resemblance with the Pagani Huayra but with the integration of Mercedes’ Sensual Purity design philosophy.

Powertrain

The Project One is powered by a turbocharged engine and four electric motors. It carries a 1.6-liter V6 engine with direct injection similar to the Mercedes F1 car. The electric motors boost the performance of the turbocharger, crankcase and both front wheels.

The overall output of the hypercar is more than 740 kW or more than 1,000 hp. The rear-wheel output of the vehicle is 500 kW while the wheels in front each has 120 kW.

The Project One has a top speed of more than 350 km/h. The power is distributed via an automated AMG SPEEDSHIFT 8-speed manual transmission. The acceleration of the auto from zero to 200 km/h is less than six seconds.

The car is equipped with a high-voltage EQ Power+ drive system with 800 volts. The electric range of the vehicle is only 25 km as the electric motors are more focused on providing a boost in the auto’s driving performance.
