Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Other Best SUVs in the Market

Giancarlo Perlas May 22, 2017

The SUV market is fiercely competitive right now with a number of the main manufacturers releasing fantastic models that have won over both critics and the public. Leading the pack is the superb Mercedes-Benz GLC, which ticks all of the boxes for what motorists need in a sports utility vehicle, but how does the competition stack up?

Here is all you need to know about the class leaders in the SUV segment:

1. Mercedes-Benz GLC

Unsurprisingly, the GLC SUV from Mercedes is a beautiful vehicle that exudes all the style and appeal that Mercedes are known for. It is not just a looker, however, as the GLC is also a joy to drive and packs quite the punch. It is also economical with up to 56.5mpg for the urban fuel consumption cycle. Another aspect that has won over motorists is the premium interior, which is remarkably spacious and comfortable. Overall, this is a great all rounder with plenty of appeal.

2. Volkswagen Tiguan

The Tiguan is another hugely popular SUV and great all-rounder. It features a muscular design and spacious, well-equipped interior, making it a great choice for families. There are three petrol engines and four diesel options to choose from so most will be able to find one suited to their needs. The ride quality could be better, but it is still a comfortable drive and the impressive driver aids are a nice touch. It can be expensive to buy, but places like Motorpoint will be the best place to shop.

3. Audi Q7

Most found the original Q7 to be too large, but the second-generation model is smaller and lighter. This gives it much better handling and efficiency. Despite shrinking slightly, it is still very spacious inside and can easily fit 7 people plus storage. The e-tron hybrid delivers over 160mpg, whilst the lightning quick SQ7 can achieve 0-60 in just 4.9 seconds.

4. BMW X5

The X5 is, unsurprisingly as a BMW, a very comfortable drive with a luxury interior and economical diesel engine. It can comfortably sit 7 inside and features plenty of great technology to improve the experience, but it is not as fast or as enjoyable to drive as its rivals. It is one of the most economical entries in the SUV market though thanks to the use of tech to boost its efficiency.

There are many great SUVs on the market right now and it is very competitive, with these four leading the way in terms of style, practicality, efficiency and performance.
