New Electric Vehicle Platform Being Developed By Mercedes-Benz
Peter Parcon December 31, 2015It appears Mercedes-Benz is working on a new platform for an electric vehicle that will be used on four upcoming models, as shown on a report from worldcarfans.com.
The platform will reportedly be dubbed as EVA and will be similar to the MRA architecture, which is currently being used on a number of models including the C-Class and the S-Class. However, everything for the moment are simply reports since the luxury vehicle manufacturer has not released any official statement on a new platform for electric vehicles.
The new platform is supposed designed to allow it to accommodate large-sized battery packs that will have a total weight of around 882 pounds.
Reports revealed that the first model to use the platform will be unveiled in 2018. This model will be a sedan that fits in between the C-Class and the E-Class. A crossover will follow this initial model that will be positioned in between the GLC and the GLE. The German luxury vehicle manufacturer is expected to introduce an S-Class electric vehicle along with a larger crossover that will reportedly be bigger compared to the GLS.
Rear-wheel drive models featuring an electric motor are expected to offer 402 HP of power while all-wheel drive models featuring an electric motor will have a power output of 120 HP or 201 HP. An adaptive suspension is expected to be integrated into these models along with a modern energy recovery system and torque vectoring system.
The annual sales target of the company for the vehicles using the new platform designed for electric vehicles is supposed set at around 20,000 units for every model. The price tags of these models are expected to be around £70,000.
