Mercedes-Benz C200 CDI Estate Emissions Higher Than Limit – German Lobby Group
Peter Parcon December 23, 2015The emission test result for the Mercedes-Benz C200 CDI Estate published by DUH, an environmental lobby group from Germany, was described “questionable” by Daimler, as shown on a report from wroldcarfans.com.
The press release issued by Deutsche Umwelthilfe or DUH showed the nitrogen oxide emissions of the C200 CDI Estate was twice the legal limits according to Euro 5 regulations. The University of Applied Sciences conducted the tests in Bern, Switzerland. The same university conducted similar tests on an Opel Zafira and a Renault Espace.
The test results on the Mercedes-Benz C200 CDI Estate were considered “questionable” by Daimler since no information were released by DUH on the conditions when the tests were conducted. A spokesman for the company also said the environmental lobby group from Germany has not released any information on crucial factors like the temperature when the tests were conducted and the loading weight of the vehicle.
The same lobby group also accused the German luxury vehicle manufacturer of utilizing devices in manipulating emissions test results in a number of vehicle models last September. However, Daimler indicated that the allegations of DUH were false.
The main focus if DUG appears to be diesel vehicles since all three units they tested featured turbo-diesel engines. The C200 CDI Estate comes with a 1.6 dCi engine while the Zafira features a 1.6 CDTi engine. In the two situations, the results released by DUH indicated that the two vehicles did not meet emission standards. The tests showed the nitrogen oxide emissions of the Mercedes-Benz C200 CDI Estate were 25 times higher than Euro 6 standards.
