Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Spotted At Chantilly 2015
Peter Parcon September 10, 2015When the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR was manufactured by the performance and motorsports division of Mercedes-Benz, it was initially intended to become a part of the FIA GT Championship in 1997. Designed mainly as to be a racecar, it was later upgraded after it was successful in the 1997 competition. One unit of this unique engineering marvel was seen on display last Sunday at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille 2015, as shown on a report from gtspirit.com.
Production of the CLK GTR was limited to 26 units with 6 units being roadsters while the other 20 were coupes. All but one unit of the CLK GTR were left-hand drive. The single right-hand drive unit was specially built for the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
Since it was not necessary for the CLK GTR to meet racing restrictions, it was considered to offer more power compared to the racecar. The engine size was increased to a 6.9-liter V12 from a 6.0-liter V12 engine, which allowed it to produce 604 HP of power along with a torque of 572 lb-ft. This allowed the CLK GTR to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h within 3.8 seconds. It also has a top speed of 320 km/h.
The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR has a similar appearance as the unit designed to be a racecar with its most impressive aerodynamic and visual change was its notable rear wing.
