All You Can Expect From the Mercedes-AMG S63 4MATIC Cabriolet
Giancarlo Perlas September 6, 2015The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet is set to bring style and comfort to another level. It is defined by its four-seating arrangement, wind protection and heating system, intelligent climate control, plus a better and fully automated operation of its retractable roof on top of the other signature features of its range. After all, the car is supposed to be the flagship convertible of the three-pointed star brand, and the spiritual successor of the classic Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Cabriolet.
Aside from the design, comfort, tech and luxury elements of the S-Class cabrio, its performance is also something to behold. The lineup is accentuated by the S550 and the full-badged AMG units. According to the press release of Mercedes during the official online debut of the top-down, the entry level flagship cabrio will come with 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque from its V8 engine.
The Mercedes-AMG S63 4MATIC Cabriolet brings both figures to an increase of more than a hundred in its 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine. Notably, the AMG S63 is said to have 577 hp while the torque is brought up to 664 lb-ft. The power is distributed via the AMG SPEED SHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission gearbox to all four wheels with bias to the rear wheels. These drive the car from zero to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds, and its top speed could reach up to 186 mph (electronically limited).
The exterior of the AMG variant offers light-alloy performance wheels mated to high-performance tires and composite brakes. Then it is equipped with automatic exhaust flaps, which are influenced by the three different driving modes of the car. These are available in addition to the other optional extras offered by the performance division of Mercedes such as ceramic composite brakes, exclusive sports seats, high resolution TFT color display in the instrument cluster, and other personalized elements provided by AMG.
Lastly, the whole weight of the AMG S63 Cabriolet has been reduced significantly thanks to its magnesium bulkhead in its luggage compartment, body composed mostly of aluminum, as well as use of lightweight lithium-ion battery pack.
