2016 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be Compatible with CarPlay
Giancarlo Perlas June 7, 2015The Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be the earliest model of the three-pointed star brand to offer support for Apple’s CarPlay. This report came from IndianAutosBlog, citing MB Passion as source. In addition to the CarPlay support, the car will also allow MirrorLink integration with its COMAND infotainment system.
It was earlier rumored that the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be the first car of the brand to offer CarPlay support. This was backed by the fact that the latest C-Class was the first Mercedes to preview the feature during the Geneva Motor Show last year.
With this latest development, the CarPlay integration option might be available earlier than speculated. The 2016 Mercedes A-Class will come as a facelifted model of its latest version. The world premiere of the car is expected to happen on September 26 this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
CarPlay was initially referred to as iOS in Car when news about its development got leaked to the media. This was probably due to the lack of a better term for the car operating system as its name was not known before.
Apple’s CarPlay is actually a filtered and driver-friendly version of the iOS. It provides hands-off text messaging, music streaming, navigation services, phone calls, plus Siri support from a paired iPhone.
The same features are basically offered by MirrorLink for Android smartphones.
