We have been seeing spy shots of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan lately. However, details about the car remain tight as of the moment like the way the thick camouflage of its prototype has been covering up its key features.
Recently, another trickle of information has been leaked about the W213 generation of the E-Class. According to WorldCarFans, Mercedes-Benz is aiming to launch the car at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), which will be held in the first month of next year. The report cited a certain “reliable source from Germany” as the origin of the information.
The article also claimed that the estate model of the Mercedes E-Class will follow approximately six months after the debut of its sedan counterpart. So far, no time frame was mentioned about the releases of the coupe and convertible models in the report, but it said the two should be some time after the premiere of the estate unit.
Based on WCF, the next Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be riding on the MRA platform. The new architecture would help reduce the overall weight of the car between 154 and 330 lbs.
The source stated that the first model of the car to hit the market will have a straight inline-six. It will be equipped with a 2.9-liter biturbo diesel power unit with around 313 hp. Others will come with double e-turbos carrying at least 400 hp, and an entry-level with 1.6-liter turbodiesel producing an estimated 122 hp. Of course, expect a plug-in hybrid model of the car to hit the showrooms too later on.
