Mercedes-Benz Coupe Planned as Answer to the Audi TT and BMW 2 Series
Giancarlo Perlas April 29, 2015Mercedes-Benz is setting its sights on the Audi TT and BMW 2 Series. According to UK’s AutoCar, the three-pointed star brand is planning to release an entry-level coupe that would be its answer to the said model from its rival.
Citing sources within the company, the report claimed the new Mercedes-Benz coupe will replace the A-Class in 2019. It will carry a two-door design, and it will be based on the second-generation MFA platform of Mercedes.
Most of the styling features of the car will be lifted from the Mercedes-AMG GT. Then, the concept is planned to make use of a 2+2 layout, but with more room than the A-Class. The boot capacity of the auto is currently sketched to get around 350 liters of boot capacity. Its suspension may be lower, and it will likely be lighter than the car it will replace too.
The article speculated that the 2019 Mercedes-Benz coupe might benefit from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine coming from AMG. The engine is expected to bring the power of the A-Class replacement to at least 400 hp.
So far, everything about the new variant is in the drawing board of Daimler. However, the source noted that among the strong supporters of the idea was none other than the company CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche.
