Mercedes-Benz S-Class Convertible Spied with Less Camo
Giancarlo Perlas February 20, 2015If there’s one thing that is sexier than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, it’s a convertible variant. After years of speculations, the three-pointed star brand seemed to be aiming for the release of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class Convertible this year.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class Convertible Official Launch
Recently, spy photos of what appeared to be an S-Class convertible were spotted. The car appeared with less camouflage, and looked to be in the final stage of its development. These fueled predictions that it might come out this 2015—probably in its latter half. If this is the case, then it may carry a 2016 model year.
Based From the Ocean Drive Concept
In 2006, Mercedes unveiled its Ocean Drive Concept, a car that would serve as a blueprint for the design of the S-Class convertible. However, the subject in the spy photos showed significant developments compared to its concept model years ago.
The noticeable changes were the sexier curves of the car that obviously took many of the styling elements presented in the current S-Class coupe. The spied car also displayed more aggressive and sportier features. In addition, it ditched the four-door design of the Ocean Drive Concept.
Possible Engine Specs of the S-Class Convertible
Auto Express said its standard model would be the S500 with a 4.7-liter biturbo V8 engine capable of giving off 449 hp. It added that AMG variants will likely follow like the S63 and S65 variants with 576 hp and 630 hp, respectively. On the other hand, GTSpirit made a bold prediction that the company might introduce a V12 version in the mix.
Pricing of the Car
According to estimates from the automotive news sources, the starting price of the auto may be £10,000 to £15,000 more than the cost of the S-Class coupe right now.
