Mercedes-AMG Sport Range Confirmed for Detroit Auto Show
Giancarlo Perlas November 28, 2014Despite still falling behind BMW in worldwide luxury vehicle sales, the Mercedes brand enjoyed a very successful year in 2014. The German luxury automaker had notable releases, which included the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, plus the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S, to name a few. Then, it achieved another major milestone in its sporting history by winning the Formula One Constructors’ Championship, and its driver, Lewis Hamilton, bagged the F1 World Title this year.
To celebrate its success, Mercedes is starting 2015 with a bang at the Detroit Auto Show. Recently, the company confirmed the launching of its new Mercedes-AMG Sport range in the Motor City.
As mentioned earlier, the AMG Sport line will bridge the performance gap between the standard Mercedes-Benz and the full-blown Mercedes-AMG variants. An example of one of the cars under the new line is the Mercedes C450 AMG Sport sedan.
The Mercedes C450 AMG Sport is considered as a mid-range model that sits between the Mercedes-Benz C400 and the Mercedes C63 AMG. The AMG Sport car will carry a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine with an output of around 367 hp. It should be noted that the C400 has 329 hp while the C63 AMG possesses 450 hp. The figures of the standard and the performance variants display a huge gap indeed in terms of performance.
According to sources, there will be two Mercedes-AMG Sport models that will debut in Detroit next year. Aside from the C450 AMG Sport, the three-pointed star marque will be unveiling an AMG Sport variant of its MLC crossover coupe as well, which will likely carry a new badge based on the new nomenclature system of the company.
