Giancarlo Perlas July 4, 2014Mercedes-Benz is not only outstanding in its luxury cars. Once again, the brand showed that it is capable of adapting into the continuously-changing landscape of the auto industry even in its other products.
Recently, the new Mercedes Actros was voted as the “Fleet Truck of the Year 2014”. The recognition was given to the three-pointed star marque’s truck division in the Motor Transport Awards 2014.
The Motor Transport Awards is considered by the automotive sector as their own version of the “Oscars” as its prestige can be likened to it. The latest event marked the 29th year of the awarding body. The judging panel was composed on 60 highly regarded experts in the auto industry. Then, it was attended by around 1,600 representatives in the transport sector.
The judges singled out the Mercedes Actros among other nominees due to its features, which stood out from its rivals. Among the elements that influenced the judges to give the award to the German brand is for its new truck’s improved fuel efficiency, low cost of ownership, driver comfort, plus outstanding parts and service support through its focused dealer network.
Notably, the Mercedes Actros was the first to prove that Euro VI vehicles would not be less fuel efficient, contrary to what critics have feared.
So far, Mercedes-Benz trucks have won the same award four times for the past decade. In 2004, 2007 and 2011, the Axor was the recipient of the award. Now, the new Actros has beaten its shortlisted rivals from Volvo and Scania.
