Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-In Hybrid Set To Go To Frankfurt
Peter Parcon July 8, 2013An executive from Mercedes-Benz Australia confirmed that the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-In Hybrid will be introduced together with the latest S-Class range during the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Mercedes-Benz Australia Senior Manager of Corporate Communications David McCarthy made the confirmation around a month after reports pointed to the possible launch of the vehicle during the event. However, the executive did not indicate if the vehicle that will be launched is a global model. He also did not reveal details on the release schedule of the vehicle.
Although powertrain of the vehicle was also not specified by the luxury vehicle manufacturer, the S500 Plug-In Hybrid is anticipated to feature the standard V6 gasoline engine and an electric motor. The electric motor will provide a twenty-mile range when it runs purely on electricity.
On the other hand, the company revealed that the upcoming vehicle will have an emission of less than 75 grams of carbon dioxide for every kilometer. This is equivalent to around 72 mpg.
Sales of the S500 Plug-In Hybrid are expected to start sometime in the third quarter of next year.
