50 Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL Vans Ordered by Danish Postal Service
Ryan Joseph Ramos February 21, 2013The largest order for the Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL panel vans in Europe was just made by Post Danmark. A total of 50 units of the battery-powered electric vans will be delivered for the Danish postal service over the next few months.
Considering that Denmark was among the seven markets targeted in Europe by Mercedes-Benz Vans during its field tests right after the vans hit the market, this is definitely a huge contract for Mercedes-Benz Danmark.
“We are delighted about this major order from Scandinavia,” said Mercedes-Benz Vans Sales and Marketing chief Klaus Maier. “The successful conclusion of the contract with Post Danmark underscores just how ably our Vito E-CELL has demonstrated its worth in this large-scale operation in Denmark over the past months.”
The Vito E-CELL, which is currently up for sale in 15 different European markets, was chosen by Post Danmark after a successful pilot operation that involved fielding three of the vans in Bornholm, a Danish island in the Baltic Sea, during mid-2011. One of the clinchers for the decision was the fact that the vehicle can do anything a classic van can do while having a top-of-the-line electric drive.
This batch of Vito E-CELL orders works well with Mercedes-Benz’s goal of “emission-free mobility,” as cited by Markus Denzler, the Managing Director for Commercial Vehicles at Mercedes-Benz Denmark and Sweden.
