Mercedes Benz halts production for Euro 2008 semifinal match

A Mercedes-Benz owned Truck manufacturing plant in Turkey, Aksaray province, will seize production at 9 pm on Wednesday due to the Euro Cup 2008 semifinal soccer match between Turkey and Germany. While many would consider this an unusual act of generosity by the employer, you probably don’t know how important soccer is to the Turks. No doubt that this will be a huge moral boosted to all the employees, especially if the Turkish team beats the Germans in the semifinal match.

The company’s director, Hans Ulrich Maik, said all laborers will be able to watch the game at their homes and that production will start again with the morning shift on Thursday

The Aksaray facility is Mercedes’ third biggest facility, after facilities in Germany and Brazil. Trucks produced in Aksaray are exported to 56 countries.
