The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing will be the featured car in Mecum Auctions, which will be held next month.

The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing is one of the most sought-after prizes of car collectors in auctions. Once again, another unit of the iconic and classic car of the three-pointed star brand will hit the auction block next month.

The next event of Mecum Auctions will be conducted from September 3 to 6 at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. Its featured car is the 300 SL Gullwing.

According to the auctioneer, the 300 SL Gullwing up for grabs was exported to the U.S. on August 25, 1955. It originally came in a blue finish coupled with a light-gray  interior. However, its last owner, who purchased the classic vehicle in 2001, had it customized by Pollock Automotive Restoration in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Now, it is presented in a silver finish with dark-blue leather adorning its cabin.

The engine, brakes, master cylinder and brake booster of the vehicle were also refurbished by Gullwing specialists. It should be noted that the original engine specifications of the car were retained though to keep its mid-1950’s feel. Then, it is currently fitted with fresh Rudge wheels and Dunlop tires for better performance on the road.

The car was among the highlights of prestigious events such as the 2013 Radnor Hunt Concours, St. Michaels Concours d’Elegance, and Kiawah Island Motoring Retreat.

The said 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing can be found under lot S130.1. It is expected to fetch around $1.7 million to $2 million when the gavel hits the block.
