2030 Mercedes-Benz Vision Van Is The Future Of Deliveries

Giancarlo Perlas October 3, 2016

The German automaker Mercedes-Benz just unveiled its Vision Van concept, which it hopes would allow the company to branch out to logistics and delivery. The van contains all the technological gizmo available on the planet, and represents Mercedes’ supply chain—from warehousing to final delivery.

This is a “revolutionary van” for the urban areas, and the 13:33-minute video posted on YouTube showed how this concept will work. The autonomous, drone-launching delivery van will be customized according to the needs of the deliverables. They will be made with the exact specifications required by the items to be delivered, so that both clients and suppliers can be satisfied.

The Vision Van looks like it stepped out from a science-fiction movie, though without the metal wings and some mascot riding on it. Instead of dark or colorful murals on big and blank slab sides, the Vision Van has more of a plain look. It is a collection of preexisting ideas that are now being developed to produce this concept vehicle.

The Vision Van concept is a battery-electric vehicle that is intended to make deliveries for dense urban cities. It can produce about 100 horsepower with a range of just under 170 miles. There’s a drone, but what excites enthusiasts is at the back. You’ll find a “one-shot” loading system, which can fit smart racks that slide right into the cargo area.

Once at the delivery location, the rack with the package separates itself automatically and goes to a pass-through just behind the driver. When it’s done, the robot slides out the track and then, slides in the next one. Though the loader isn’t fast, it’s all a concept anyway.
