Mercedes-Benz is one of the most successful auto brands in this year’s customer survey conducted by U.S. market research institute J.D. Power. The Stuttgart car brand receives two gold awards for the highest vehicle quality in their respective market segments, and is also honoured for the world’s best production plant. This outstanding result is one outcome of the initiative launched by Mercedes-Benz to raise customer satisfaction and product quality.
In conducting the annual study, market researchers investigate the satisfaction
of American customers with new vehicle purchases within the first 90 days, and evaluate the quality of both the concept and execution of the vehicle. Overall, Mercedes-Benz moved up one place against last year from fifth to fourth, and is the only vehicle brand with three models (CLK, E and S-Class) within the top ten passenger vehicles.
This year saw the E-Class and the CLK each receive gold J.D. Power Awards. According to the U.S. study, these models are the highest quality vehicles in their market segments. Furthermore, Mercedes’ Sindelfingen plant receives the Platinum Award, making it the assembly facility with the best delivered quality worldwide.

These results show that the quality issues that plagued Mercedes in the early 2000s now appear to be in the past. If only Consumer Reports would get with the program…

I agree! Mercedes is definitely getting back to what they were known for. Like you said, the early years in the decade were pretty bad for Mercedes in terms of quality, mostly because they were trying to save money. There coming back and Consumer Report should take notice

It will take a while for the improvements in Mercedes quality to be reflected in the Consumer Reports statistics. They come from their annual reader survey which they haven’t even mailed out yet. If their readers aren’t experiencing any problems with the newer Mercedes cars then the statistics will improve.
I haven’t had a single problem with my new C300 and I have over 15k miles on it now. Not one problem, even a little one. It’s way and above the most solidly built car I have ever owned. It feels like the Mercedes my uncle used to drive back in the 1970s. There is more plastic in it of course then was in those 1970s cars, yet mine feels just as solid. The quality of fit and finish is, in my opinion, better then the Acura and Lexis…my friends all notice it (a friend who owns an Acura confessed to me that they are prone these days to having rattles).
I expect my C300 will be absolutely reliable in the years to come. If this is how Mercedes is making all its cars now, then those CU statistics will improve. But it will take time. They only gather data from their readers once a year.
