German magazine, Spiegel, is reporting that Apple will be developing the navigation or GPS system for the future Mercedes cars, which may be featured as early as 2009 in a Mercedes car. They are also reporting that Google Maps may join Apple, as they have in the past, in this project.

Mercedes will get the exclusive rights for a 6 month period, after which others we be able to add that system to their cars.

I am not really sure what Apple can do better than anyone else in terms of navigation other than creating a stylish GUI. Let us wait and we shall find out.

INTERESTING??? You must be off your rocker, my friend. Apple has been trying to push themselves into this “Mercedes of Computers” position since their comeback in the late 90s. I’m sure this will go out to other automakers at first, but this is only a image thing. They are trying to make you think Mercedes parts is to cars, as Apple is to computers. And we will all comply like good little machine heads :)
